About
Hidden Look Seoul

Founder

Hyonuuk(Q) is a Korean video artist and freelance director. He mainly does installation art and performance using video. The subject of his work is the existence of people and objects. In 2014, he held the first Spacing out Contest (멍때리기 대회) in the square in front of the Seoul city hall, causing a stir in Korean society.

History

Hidden Look Seoul began after Q finished an art project in the redevelopment area of Ahyeon-dong, Seoul. The Ahyeon-dong project was about the lack of documentation of old neighborhoods disappearing due to development. He decided to document many old neighborhoods in Seoul that were disappearing. In 2018, he prepared the project after seeing the Sewoon Shopping Center area, an old landmark in Seoul, being rapidly redeveloped. Then he found Airbnb’s experience program. As part of the archiving project, he wanted to show travelers visiting Seoul old neighborhoods before they disappear. He named the trip Hidden Look Seoul and started the tour of the Sewoon Shopping Center area.

Vison

Hidden Look Seoul aims to expand the scope of project trips to art and culture. We will create trips in various forms for distinctive areas in Seoul that are disappearing due to redevelopment or reconstruction. We will also create a brand that does various activities such as studios, stays, homes, vacancy projects, and collaborations, in addition to trips. We also hope that this entire process will become a record and that Hidden Look Seoul itself will become an art project.
